Ludogorets won the 9th consecutive Bulgarian championship title

21 June 2020

Ludogorets’ domination in Bulgaria continues! The champions won their 9th consecutive title after defeating 2:1 Beroe. The team’s overall score is now 65 points which means they are undefeatable four matches before the championship end. Ludogorets shaped Bulgarian football’s history once more: they evened the previous record held by CSKA for nine consecutive titles (1954-1962).

The hosts were the more active team but no goal situations were created. The guests picked up their pace after the 15th minute. Anicet tried to score in the 23rd minute but Pernis saved. Beroe took the lead in the 28th minute. Furtado passed to Fal who outplayed Terziev and scored. Ludogorets immediately applied pressure and tried to even the score. Marcelinho tried to surprise Pernis but the goalkeeper did his job. The guests performed better in the first half. The fact that Ludogorets had no central attacker reflected the team’s performance. This was the reason why the coach Vrba called Keseru onto the pitch. He replaced Anicet.

The second half began and Cauly immediately tried to create a situation but failed. Tchibota tried to perform a scissor shot later but he was not accurate. The team applied more pressure every minute. Marcelinho almost scored but Pernis kicked the ball back. The score became even soon. Wanderson passed to Cauly and the Brazilian scored. The second goal came seconds later. Tchibota outplayed the other team’s defense and scored. The action slowed down after this goal because Ludogorets knew that the score was all they needed and Beroe knew that they will not achieve a better score. Kamburov entered the pitch in the 76th minute but it did not make a difference. Keseru scored a goal right before the match ended but it was cancelled due to an offside situation.

Ludogorets now has the offer to beat another record held by CSKA: the most consecutive games without a loss. CSKA has 36 matches and Ludogorets has 32.
