Ludogorets' 12th title is the most hard-fought, but perhaps also the sweetest. In fact, at the beginning of March, it seemed that the team's first place this season was truly threatened. The "Eagles" lost 0:1 to Pirin Bl at home, which increased the gap with then-leader CSKA to 4 points. However, at that moment, the management made an extremely wise decision and brought Ivaylo Petev back to the "Huvepharma Arena." The former coach of Bosnia and Herzegovina had never really distanced himself from the team and even attended several friendlies during the winter training camp. Whatever we may say, the truth is that at that moment only Petev could lift Ludogorets. And he did! He managed to do the impossible and displace CSKA from first place by the end of the regular season, which became a fact after the sweet 1:0 victory at the "Bulgarian Army" stadium.
The "Eagles" also proved something else – that they play fair play, beating CSKA 1948 in the Bulgarian Cup, but drawing 2:2 with them in the league. This result allowed "the Reds" fans to dream, but their calculations once again turned out to be wrong, and in the end Ludogorets triumphed yet again, and with a golden double!
However, this title owes a great deal to two of the team's players – Kiril Despodov, who with his decisive goals and assists was unstoppable by any defender, as well as Igor Thiago, who kept scoring until he made a record transfer to Belgium's Club Brugge.
