SEASON 2018/19, Champions league, 2nd Qualifying Stage

Ludogorets is out of the UEFA Champions League

1 August 2018

Ludogorets is out of the UEFA Champions League preliminary phase. ‘The Eagles’ lost 0:1 to MOL Vidi in Felcsut. The first game in Razgrad ended with an even 0:0 score and this is why their participation is over. The main contributor for the fiasco that Ludogorets had to put up with was the Austrian referee Schuttengruber. He pulled Misidjan out of the game after he gave him two controversial yellow cards for simulation and for incorrect alignment of the direct free kick wall. However, he tolerated the extremely rude style of the Hungarian team without giving them proper penalties. This made Autuori’s players very angry. Hadzic scored the winning goal in the last minute of the first half after a corner kick caused a shuffle.

Ludogorets had control over the ball in most of the game, just like in the first match in Razgrad. MOL Vidi mostly performed counter attacks. However, Dyakov and the rest were not able to create a really dangerous situation. The Hungarian team decided to make everything they could to slow down and ruin the game. Renan was able to save a goal in the last few minutes by interfering in a MOL Vidi attack.

The champions will continue their journey in the European tournaments by entering the third UEFA Europa League preliminary round. Ludogorets will play against the winner of the Zrinjski Mostar – La Valletta game. The first match between the two teams ended with a 1:1 score. The rematch is scheduled for the 2nd of August in Malta.
