The young footballers of Ludogorets U13 had an outstanding performance during the ninth edition of the football tournament held in memory of the unforgettable Trifon Ivanov. The competition for children born in 2013 brought together six teams from across the country, who engaged in intense battles under the scorching sun of Veliko Tarnovo.
The Ludogorets U13 team was placed in a group with Lokomotiv (Gorna Oryahovitsa) and Slavia (Sofia). The second group featured the hosts Etar (Veliko Tarnovo), CSKA (Sofia), and Beroe (Stara Zagora).
In their first match, the young “Eagles” suffered a narrow 1:2 defeat against Lokomotiv. The goal for the team from Razgrad was scored by Martin Savchev from the penalty spot. In their second match, the Ludogorets U13 boys came from behind to defeat Slavia. After trailing by one goal, which was conceded as early as the fifth minute, they turned the game around to win 1:3. Kris Tevia scored the first goal with a remarkable strike from the edge of the penalty area, followed by goals from Yoan Hadzhiev and Momchil Kostov. After the victory, Ludogorets topped their group. This advancement earned them a place in the final against the capital city rivals, CSKA.
In the first half of the final, CSKA took a 0:1 lead from a corner kick. After the break, the Razgrad side proved to be the better team on the pitch and managed to equalize. However, the draw wasn’t enough to secure the win, and after a penalty shootout, they lost 2:4. Thus, after all matches played, the young talents of Ludogorets U13 finished in second place in the traditional tournament.
"I’m very pleased with the performance of the boys, who have only been training together for two weeks!" said Ludogorets U13 head coach Svetlin Ivanov.
