Ludogorets talents beat Dynamo (Minsk) 1:0 at the end and started their participation in the Youth League with a win. Substitute Nikola Todorov scored the winning goal in the 88th minute. Dynamo was a symbolic host in the first match. However, the two teams met at the Eagles' Nest stadium due to UEFA's ban on playing in Belarus. The meeting was held without an audience, because that is what the regulation of the European Football Headquarters requires.
The importance of the match left its mark on the game actions and the scoring situations in front of the two goalkeepers were not many. The Eagles had more possession of the ball, but the opponent's counterattacks were not safe either.
In the 32nd minute, Zlatomir Stoimenov saved a shot from a small angle by Ivan Orlov. In the extra time of the first part, Ludogorets responded with a dangerous shot by Konstantin Dimitrov from the arc of the penalty area. However, the Dynamo keeper was able to take a corner kick.
After the break, Zlatomir Stoimenov intervened decisively in the 62nd minute and frustrated Ivan Orlov, who shot from close range. In the 86th minute, Yoan Yordanov was brought well into the penalty area, but at the last moment a defender blocked his shot. Two minutes later Nikola Todorov fired an unsalvageable shot into the far corner for the final 1:0.
We didn't play our best game. There was tension in our team, we retreated in single combats and did not fully respond to the opponent's aggression. We still scored a nice goal at the end and won. There is a rematch comming, where there will be an audience. I expect then that we will show our true capabilities, commented head coach Zahari Sirakov after the final whistle.
The second leg is on Sunday (October 8) at 18:00 and will be played at the Eagle's Nest stadium. The match will be open to fans and Ludogorets fans will be able to support the talents of the Champions.
